This happened between the 14th and 16th century before modern technology made it so much easier to hunt vampires down. The academic, streetwise, and wilderness prone, etc,etc elements of humanity stalked and slayed many a vampire who tried to keep their heads down. Ignorant backward malnourished masses of Peasants dragged out kindred from their castles and manors and slayed vampires who could juggle and throw boulders or kill a mob with the snap of the finger or whisper of a word. The first inquisition came about because vampires were losing their humanity openly or ruling as what they were openly. The less humanity one has the harder it is to wake during the day from noise or disturbance. A couple of pissed off homeless people can stake an ancient vampire and drag them out into the sunlight or behead them during the day. On top of that humanity (people) is the ultimate threat to kindred despite their vast powers. Thus no bloodthirsty evil vampire for you or at least not for very long. Kindred (Vampires in the game) are made to suffer for accepting existence as monsters. In a sense the powers that be want repentance and the beast is arguably placed in a Cainite (Kimdred/Vampires soul) as a punishment for rejecting ones humanity. She hooks up with Caine and eventually teaches him some supernatural arts and some of them are very gruesome. In her time wandering she becomes a powerful magic user. Caine extensively roamed the Earth until he met Lilith whom came before Eve and Lilith was exiled from paradise for rejecting Adam. Each angel slapped him with a curse that would extend to his progeny (Basically making Caine the first vampire and any vamp he sired and their respective sired generations suffer as well). Angels or powerful beings were supposedly sent to Caine to get him to repent and he refused and rejected their path to forgiveness. Because the curse is on Caine for killing his brother Abel.
